What does an ATM skimming device look like?

ATM Skimmer device

The skimmer looks identical to the actual reader.

When the skimming device is removed, you can see the adhesive tape and the hardware used to capture card information from the magnetic strip.

Inside an ATM skimming device

It’s not just the card reader you should worry about. A second component of ATM skimmers is a camera being placed within the frame of the cash dispenser to capture PIN numbers. Always tug on the frame to see if comes loose.

Always conduct a physical inspection when you use the ATM. Pull or tug on the card reader, cash dispenser frame and key pad. Just because it looks normal doesn’t mean it is.
