Universal 1 Credit Union announces the
2026 Glen R Kershner Memorial Scholarship winners

Universal 1 Credit Union (U1) members, Angelo Apiado of Ohio University, Ella Boettcher of Centerville High School, and Lola Shetler of Northmont High School were each awarded this year’s Glen R Kershner Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00. The 2026 graduates have distinguished themselves through their leadership, academic achievement, and meaningful service, preparing them to excel in their future paths in collegiate athletics, technology, and education.

Angelo’s academic drive and determination have shaped an impressive educational path. After graduating from Kettering Fairmont High School, he earned a 4.0 GPA and Dean’s List honors at Sinclair Community College before transferring to Ohio University, where he continues to excel in the VR/Game Development track of the Information Telecommunications program. His experiences as a multi-sport athlete, Dayton Food Bank volunteer, and long-time Donatos employee reflect his strong work ethic and commitment to service. Jose plans to pursue a career in IT while building his game-development portfolio, crediting U1 for helping him stay financially disciplined throughout his studies.

Ella brings an impressive blend of athletic excellence and community service to this year’s scholarship class. An Ohio Division I All-State Second Team honoree, she will continue her soccer career at Wright State University as part of the Women’s Soccer Team. Her commitment to service includes involvement in the Spanish Honor Society, the Noon Optimist Club, and three years of volunteer work with TOP Soccer, where she supported athletes with disabilities. A licensed referee and recreational trainer, Ella plans to pursue Wright State’s Pre-Physician Assistant program with the goal of providing compassionate, athlete-focused surgical care.

Lola’s high school career is marked by leadership, creativity, and a deep passion for education. She played key roles in drama, student government, a cappella, and honors choir—ultimately serving as choir president—while also mentoring younger students through Link Crew and a K–2 internship. Her volunteer and work experiences at Aullwood Audubon, Salem Church of the Brethren, and her church youth group strengthened her skills in communication and classroom support. Lola will attend Ohio University to study elementary education, aspiring to become a dedicated and inspiring early-childhood teacher.

U1 proudly celebrates Angelo, Ella, and Lola for their outstanding accomplishments and wishes them continued success as they pursue their goals with passion and purpose.
